Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Verona area in Italy.
Even after hundreds of years since Shakespeare adapted the legend of the star-crossed lovers of Verona for the stage, a story originally written by Luigi da Porto of Vicenza about fifty years earlier and based on an actual medieval couple whose families were loyal to the Pope and Roman Emperor respectively, contemporaries and possibly neighbors of the poet Dante Alighieri as he was formulating his Divine Comedy, it is easy to understand why this poignant tale would have been set here. Periodically torn apart by those seeking sole ownership of this beautiful area, for many years Verona was a territory shared by Austria and France, then through warfare became a part of Italy in the mid 19th century, only to be torn apart again in the battles between Austria and Italy during World War I, and again almost completely destroyed by both Axis and Allied forces during World War II. Yet, in spite of its tragic history, Verona has managed to emerge as a significant manufacturing center, while miraculously preserving the ancient history, architecture and feel of its romantic inner soul.
